What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a profession that makes extensive use of manual assessment and treatment guided by the principles set forth by its founder, Dr. Andrew Taylor Still. Osteopathy emphasizes the interrelationship between structure and function of the body. Osteopaths are functional anatomists who use manual therapy. They find the health, rather than focus on disease. Osteopathic treatment works to restore proper body mechanics, nerve impulses and the circulation of body fluids.

What is Osteopathic Manual Therapy?
Practitioners of Osteopathic Manual Therapy follow the theory that imbalances in the human structure contribute to or are directly related to the development and/or maintenance of disease. Anatomy and physiology is the foundation of Osteopathic treatment. Practitioners recognize that the human body is self-regulating and self-healing – and will strive for health if given a chance. Our role is to encourage this self-healing capacity through manual treatment – to convert the physical into the physiological. We allow nature to do its job of removing any and all obstacles and obstructions that will interfere with the proper nutrition and drainage of the body’s tissue. Understanding and adjusting the anatomical unity of the human structure is our job.

Henna Sodhi was born and raised in Ottawa and is currently in her final clinical semester at The Canadian Academy of Osteopathy. A creative soul, Henna was drawn to a life in the arts at an early age. Henna has always had an interest in understanding people, and how we become who we are. She explored this through acting, trauma informed studies, and exploration of community driven connection. All following her central interest in building uplifting forms of care. After completing the drama program at Canterbury High School, Henna continued her pursuit of acting and a life in the arts at Vancouver’s renowned Studio 58. Henna had struggled with food sensitivities as a teenager and at the age of 24 slowly developed chronic illnesses. Her decline in health lead to leaving her life in the arts and coming back to Ottawa to find healing. She sought allopathic treatment but did not find solutions. Raised with the integration of holistic health care, Henna finally found answers from holistic health practices where she was introduced to Osteopathy through Véronique Vallée. Over the course of their treatments, Henna’s curiosity, wonder, and excitement at the capacity of the body, and osteopathy grew, until Véronique suggested Henna consider The Canadian Academy of Osteopathy in Hamilton. After further healing, Henna enrolled in The CAO and has been traveling between Ottawa and Hamilton with the goal of obtaining her Masters in Osteopathic Manual Sciences. In the little spare time she has outside of studying Osteopathy, Henna maintains an interest in acting, singing, dance, visual arts, cooking, learning about nature, spending time with her dogs, and connecting with the people she loves. In her constant practise of growth, learning, and understanding, she is grateful for the opportunity to continue her journey of Osteopathy at Osteo Naturel.

Tara grew up in Ontario for most of her life, a fourth-generation Canadian of Scottish, Irish and Slavic descent. Since childhood, she’s had a profound curiosity about nature, giving her the foundation to appreciate all of life’s creatures and to understand how the body, psyche, environment and spirit work together to either disrupt or promote energy flow.

Tara studied Arts Management at the University of Toronto which prompted an over-10-year career in corporate policy-advocacy for nonprofits, charities and arts organizations. While supporting Canadian communities through advocacy, she also pursued her studies in Holy Fire Reiki, Shamanic Journeying, Mindfulness and Yin Yoga, leading to a deep vocational understanding of the energetic anatomy of the body - including chakras, the aura, meridian points and interconnectedness of the breath, fascia and movement.

For the last 5 years, Tara has been a Reiki Teacher, passing down a longstanding tradition of informed energy healing - how energy moves through the body, and how anyone can access the gentle and powerful energy within themselves to promote personal wellbeing and empowerment.

As a client practitioner, her technique utilizes Reiki, mindfulness coaching, and knowledge of energetic and anatomical systems to unlock dense energy and promote the flow of life-force energy.

She believes that everyone deserves to experience more peace and relaxation in daily life. She supports people who seek more balance in their work, hobbies and family life, or are going through life’s transitions and transformations.

Outside of the practice room, Tara is still creating art, pursuing learning music, playing tennis, going on hikes, and spending her time with the people she loves. You can always catch her with a book on psychology, spirituality or creativity.

Kelsey was born and raised in Ottawa and has always had an interest for the anatomy and mechanics of the human body. She knew from a young age that she was passionate about helping people and wanted to pursue a career in manual therapy.

After completing high school, Kelsey went on to pursue her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at Trent University and Ontario Tech. Kelsey graduated with a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Kinesiology with distinct honours. She gained an extensive knowledge in human anatomy, exercise physiology, and injury management and prevention.

Within a short time after she began working within the field of Kinesiology, Kelsey knew that she was eager to discover more about the human body and was interested in being able to determine the root cause of the dysfunctions that she was seeing in clients day to day. This is when she discovered osteopathy. Osteopathy is based on the principles that the body is a dynamic unit of function and that structure and function are interrelated. This sparked an interest in Kelsey as she enrolled in the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy in Hamilton, Ont.

At the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy, Kelsey studied and practiced classical osteopathy and applied anatomy for 4 years. Over these years, Kelsey developed a strong understanding of the principles of osteopathy in which she is able to demonstrate on the table. This extensive program trained Kelsey to be able to assess the compensatory pattern of the body to be able to determine the root cause of the pain that her patients are experiencing.

When Kelsey is not studying or working, she enjoys walking outdoors with her dog Mack, reading and spending time with family and friends.
